Children at Rockville Public Library storytime learned about the United States flag and why we celebrate July 4. They are about to raise the flag at the library. Those helping are: front row l to r Hailey Bonomo, Abbi Bonomo, Ty Hartman, David Lacy, Matthew Lacy and Paisley Hartman; back row Cassie Clark and Library Director, Cindy Hein. Later, theyrecited the Pledge of Allegiance.
Chris Coyote, from Silly Safaries, entertained the children at Rockville Public Library. He brought a bunny, legless lizard, hermit crab, owl, skunk, frog, turtle, and ferret with him when he came to visit. The children learned about what these critters eat and how they live. Caroline Gooch and Clint Mager aren't sure if they want to be friends with a skunk. Chris Coyote said this skunk had an operation so he isn't a "stinker."
Captain Max (Bill Maxwell) had several tricks up his sleeve when he was at Rockville Public Library. His helper, Emma Henderson, isn't sure she believes everything he is telling her!!
2010 Scholarship Recipients
Parke County REMC/TWN once again presented eight $500 college scholarships, payable in two semesters, to children of members of Parke County REMC who will be attending accredited colleges as first-year students in the Fall of 2010. Applicants must have a high school grade point average of 2.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) during the first semester of their senior year. Recipients pictured are Ashley Holmes, Greencastle; Laura McGaughey, North Putnam; Brianne Mendenhall, Riverton Parke; Jaclyn Linton, Northview; Alise Harper, Rockville; Tiffany Marshall, Turkey Run; Susan Ward, Southmont. Grace Aker, South Putnam, was not present for the photo. Young Authors Caitlyn and Lillian Meagher, daughters ofChristy and Israel Meagher,are regular attendees of Rockville Public Library storytime. They decided they would write their own books to share with the other children. Caityln's book is See The Jellyfish and Lillian's book is The Dragons Come to Earth. The books were read to all of the other children during storytime.
Shelby Robertson and Dennis Pratt are smiling because they just told Santa what is on their Christmas lists. Santa and Mrs. Claus visited Rockville Public Library to listen to requests so they could tell their elves what to make!
Santa and Mrs. Claus flew to Rockville Public Library, from the North Pole, to visit with local children. Kyle and Evan Price are very pleased that Santa said he would try to do his best with their Christmas wishes.
Mike Lunsford recently spoke about his new book Sidelines: The Best of the Basketball Stories at Rockville Public Library. He is also the author of The Off Season, The Newspaper Stories of Mike Lunsford. In addition to being an author, Lunsford is a teacher of English and American History and a columnist for two newspapers. Heroes' Tree Callum Light, Reann Neyhart, Ty Hartman, and Paisley Hartman wave their flags in front of the "Heroes' Tree". Everyone is encouraged to bring a picture and/or information about current and past service people to Rockville Public Library. The library will photo copy the picture and make an ornament for the tree. This project is sponsored by The Military Family Research Institute at Purdue University, Parke County Extension Clubs, and Rockville Public Library.
Civil War PresentationRon Darrah recently presented a program at the Rockville Public Library. His topic was "Family History and the Civil War: Where to find records and how to access and order them." Darrah is a founding executive director of the Genealogical Society of Marion County. He has been involved in genealogy for many years.
June Reading Program Winner Alexia Lear is the winner of the June reading program at Rockville Public Library. She and her family were given a "Free Family Overnight Getaway" donated by Bearcreek Farms in Bryant, IN.
StorytimeMike Niehaus is a magician and ventriloquist from St. Louis.
