Weatherization Services

Achieve optimum comfort in your home. Schedule your energy audit today!

Thanks to a partnership between Parke County REMC and Community Action Programs of Western Indiana (CAP), Parke County REMC members are closer than ever to attaining ideal levels of comfort in their homes. With access to trained and certified energy raters and home performance contractors, members can now save money on heating and cooling costs while keeping their families comfortable.

CAP will provide energy audits and home weatherization services to Parke County REMC members on a for-fee basis. These services are available at extremely reasonable rates, and members with lower incomes may qualify for financial assistance to offset the fees.

By diagnosing weatherization problems, homeowners can save money on utility costs and stay comfortable. Rather than using a space heater in every room of the house, homeowners are encouraged to call us to learn more about the services offered by CAP.

Have questions? See our FAQ's page. If you don't find the answer, please contact the office and we will be happy to assist you.

To begin the process, follow these three easy steps:

Step One: Call the REMC

Call us at 765-569-3133 or 800-537-3913, and ask to speak with one of our customer services representatives. They will explain how the program works and put you in touch with CAP to make the arrangements.

Step Two: Schedule an Energy Audit

CAP will send a certified energy auditor to your home to examine energy use and efficiency during a three to five hour audit. The auditor will:

  • Look at heating, cooling, lighting and appliances
  • Examine sealing in attics and at foundations and other places
  • Check for proper ventilation
  • Explain recommended improvements
  • Provide suggestions to help you balance safety, need and cost
  • Prepare a work order with detailed recommendations for contractors

Step Three: Improve your Home

CAP can refer you to trained, experienced technicians from the Indiana Community Action Association. The association:

  • Has helped more than 15,000 Hoosier homeowners since 1970
  • Are experts in sealing, insulating and other improvements
  • Understands how to perform improvements on a budget
  • Works closely with heating/air conditioning contractors

A home energy audit costs approximately $350, and includes a detailed work order for repairs to be completed the by trained and experienced technicians of the Indiana Community Action Association (INCAA). Repairs estimated at the time of the audit can cost upward of $1,000.

INCAA incorporates four disciplines including building diagnostics, air sealing, insulation and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) work. Beyond its direct work, the association has provided training to thousands of technicians in many states. INCAA technicians are experienced problem solvers, and are ready to help contractors with comfort and efficiency issues. Technicians are qualified to help the HVAC contractor inspect the structure and recommend improvements that will allow the HVAC system to operate as effectively as possible.

Areas of expertise include attic, wall, crawlspace and duct system insulation; air sealing by way of blower door testing, interior air sealing and ventilation of tight spaces; building diagnostics and design, which includes infrared scans, duct diagnosis and repair, flue gas testing, lead testing, draft testing of combustion appliances, utility bill analysis and energy audits to identify measures to save consumers energy; and finally, HVAC needs including system evaluations and balancing, duct system evaluation, sealing and redesign and heating and air conditioning system repair and replacement.

Common repairs based on the audit include home sealing in places such as the crawlspace and attic. CAP auditors are trained to fully explain all repair suggestions and help prioritize based on safety, need and cost.

CAP currently provides low-income weatherization services in an area that encompasses nearly 95 percent of the Parke County REMC territory. With a desire to become more self-sufficient and less reliant on government funding, CAP decided to start offering its strength of energy audits and weatherization services to all Parke County REMC members.
